Lammas Circle Feast August 1st

Lammas Circle Feast August 1st

On August 1st we celebrate in the shamanic cycle of the year: Lammas, Lughnasadh or also the festival of the reapers (Lammas is the old Christian name for this festival). Rarely is it celebrated on August 2nd. The word Lammas comes from the Anglo-Saxon hlaf-mass, "loaf-mas" and means something like: the festival, the fair with the first loaf of bread baked from this year's grain (loaf), also the festival of the first fruits. The celebration is a mixture of exuberant joy (motivation and validation) in the midst of strenuous work.

The festival of the reapers is in the annual cycle opposite Candlemas, the re-entry into nature. Harvest time begins. The Grim Reaper walks across the fields and takes measurements. The sun is at its zenith and its power must now be broken. Too much sun withers, damages the harvest, dries up the earth, robs it of its strength. The hot, fiery breath of the lioness caresses everything.

Walk over the fields of nature and the fields of your life. What is ripe for harvest? What stands tall and ripe in the fields.

Your work paid off, you took good care of yourself and the earth. Leave what is not fully mature, it will be integrated into the cycle of nature, nothing is lost, it becomes fertilizer for the next year. The harvest must be completed by the last full moon in August (12.08 full moon in Aquarius), after which the plants draw their strength inward to prepare for the winter.

Harvest, bless and give thanks for what you have been given. Prepare what you need to harvest so you are ready to accept the bounty.

Decorate your altar with the symbols of the season, of course  Berry treats from your own garden like grapes, nuts, sunflower seeds and poppy seeds are perfect, as are the early first fall apples. Frankincense is perfect for incense at the Lammas ritual. With yellow, orange and red candles you symbolize the summer sun and the element fire.

Astrologically it is the time of Leo, as you know - which fits the theme of the festival: it is about taking responsibility and leadership for one's actions, power and strength are here and want to be used in moderation and prudently for the good of all.

The dark side of the current quality of time in Leo is possibly exaggerated claims to power, waste, airs and graces of ruler and rigid insistence on claims to leadership. This doesn't have to affect you personally, but maybe reflecting on it will help you...

Beginning of spring: Aries time and Ostara 20.03
After the winter in the Pisces phase, nature awakens to new life outside. Plants begin to flower and mating season begins for many animal species. Birth and the child's first cry are also assigned to Aries. And it is correct, even if we are already heading for the fourth month of April according to the Gregorian calendar, because if we look at nature and the universe, we have to realize that there are many different cycles (such as the schematic annual circle for example) that we can follow.

The constant cycle of the seasons not only has an influence on animals and plants, but also on our rhythm of life, that of humans. By focusing our attention on the cycle of the year, we can better attune to nature's energetic cycles rather than working against the natural tides.
Annual circle festival Samhain 31.10.2021
We are now entering the dark season, and with the old Celtic festival of Samhein (in our Christian culture of All Saints/All Souls' Day) yesterday at the turn of the month October/November, the gate to the afterlife opened a little. So it's a very mystical time overall.
